It’s a family affair
Meet the Sisters Behind The Creative Cakery Bake Shoppe
We’re Cynthia and Cheryl — the eldest and youngest of three sisters — and the heart (and hands!) behind The Creative Cakery Bake Shoppe in Toronto, Ontario.
Cynthia is the creative force behind our cake pops, perfectly tempered hot cocoa bombs, picture‑perfect sugar cookies, and so many other sweet creations. Cheryl — lovingly known as The Tiny Baker — is our resident cake and cupcake designer, meringue maker, bakery‑style cookie creator, and smash‑cake specialist.
And our middle sister? If she lived in Toronto, she’d absolutely be our “pie lady”… but that’s a story for another day.
Self‑Taught, Sweet‑Toothed, and Always Experimenting
We’re completely self‑taught — which means years of trial and error (or tasty experiments as we like to call them), YouTube deep dives, and the occasional class sprinkled in. The best part of these experiments was getting to eat it all after… even when something looked a little… questionable… it was still delicious!
Baking Is in Our Blood
We grew up with our mom baking and making desserts, whether it was Filipino sweet breads, cookies, and in the later years, wedding cakes!
Our mother started baking as a means to fill a void. She was not happy with the offerings at the local grocery store so she decided to take some classes and the rest is history. Soon she was making everyone’s celebration cakes!
Her reputation spread through pure word of mouth, and she became the go‑to baker for every event, big or small. She made both of our wedding cakes (Cynthia’s had 15 cakes!). To this day, the smell of Mocha Chiffon instantly brings us back to watching her hand‑pipe flowers late into the night.
Lessons We Didn’t Know We Were Learning
Little did we know we would follow in her footsteps years later, for the same reason too - looking for something that just was not being offered. It’s amazing how much knowledge you soak up over the years just being surrounded by it. Even as kids when we didn’t think we were listening to her constant pop quizzes, “I’m adding the salt now… do you remember why we add salt to the cake batter?”, we were. We heard every word.
Sweet Memories That Shaped Us
Some of our favourite childhood moments were coming home from school to find a surprise treat waiting. Something simple like layered jello, or chocolate‑covered marshmallow‑peanut‑butter cups in tiny pastel baking liners, or pudding parfaits served in what we called the “fancy cups” (really just tall milkshake glasses, but to us they were magic).
Those small, joyful moments are a huge part of why we bake today — to create that same feeling for others.
We absolutely love bringing smiles to the events that celebrate those you hold dear, big and small. To allow us to be a small part of your event makes us so proud of the work that we do. Seeing your eyes light up the first time you see your sweet treat is one of the main reasons we continue to do what we do. For us, it is more than just dessert. Being able to spread joy through something curated specifically with you in mind is such an amazing feeling. Hearing “it’s too pretty to eat” or “is that actually a cake??” is validation that our passion is in the right place.
